Each year, the Executive Council of the Institute of Directors selects the persons(s) of eminence for conferring the Award of ”Distinguished Fellowship” for their outstanding contribution to public service and society.
The first Distinguished Fellowship of Institute of Directors was conferred upon Bharat Ratna Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam in 1994.

Mrs. Bhuvaneswari Nara, Vice-Chairperson & Managing Director of Heritage Foods Limited, is a Graduate in Arts and a seasoned business leader, she serves as Director in the Board of several companies. With extensive experience in business management, she has been instrumental in driving Heritage Foods Limited toward sustained growth and success. Since joining Heritage in 1994 as a Whole-time Director, she has risen to the role of Vice-Chairperson & Managing Director, overseeing the company’s overall operations and strategic direction. In addition to her corporate responsibilities, she is the Managing Trustee of the NTR Memorial Trust, contributing to social and philanthropic initiatives.
Dr. Krishna Prasad Chigurupati is the Founder, Chairman and MD of Granules India Ltd, where he has been instrumental in transforming the company into one of the world's largest pharmaceutical manufacturing companies. With almost forty years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry, Dr Prasad has been a pioneer of innovation and entrepreneurial spirit. His accomplishments include commercializing Pharmaceutical Formulation Intermediates (PFIs), an innovative and cost-effective product for global finished dosage manufacturers. He has filed 33 patents, five of which have been granted so far. He also established facilities in cities and countries such as China & the US.
Prof. Peter Bonfield as Vice Chancellor and President of University of Westminster has responsibility to direct all the university activities and development. He was previously Chief Executive Officer of the BRE Group, which focused on research, standards and training to enable a safer and sustainable built environment around the world. He was also the President and Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) during 2019/20. He is currently the Deputy-Chair of London Higher, the organisation representing the 39 or so London Universities, where he has founded and Chairs the Health, Safety and Wellbeing Network focused on students and colleagues who collectively face many challenges. He was awarded the OBE in 2012 for services to research and innovation in the construction industry.
M. Nagaraju is an IAS officer belonging to Tripura cadre. After graduating in Economics and having completed his post-graduation in Philosophy from the University of Hyderabad, he joined the IAS in 1993.
He has served at Local, State, National and International level in various capacities for over a period of 30 years. In the State Government, he served as District Magistrate, Director of Tribal Welfare, Secretary / Principal Secretary of Health, Finance and Industries & Commerce departments and was deeply involved in tribal development work and rehabilitation of surrendered militants.
Thereafter, he worked as Advisor to the Executive Director at the World Bank, Washington DC till 2012 and contributed actively in Bank's response to 2008 financial crisis, food crisis and fuel crisis and also the sanctioning of huge development assistance to India during 2008-12. He was also closely involved in G-20, G-24 and G- 11 discussions articulating India's interests and positions.
As Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary, Ministry of Coal from 30th January, 2020 he had opened up coal sector for commercial mining in the country, transforming India from coal deficit to coal surplus country. He has served on the on the Boards of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited, Northern Coal Fields, NLCIL and Coal India.
He was appointed as Secretary Financial Services on 19 August, 2024.
Mr. Chanchal Kumar is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the 1992 batch from the Bihar cadre and currently serves as the Secretary, Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region, Government of India. He holds a B.Tech (1990) and an M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering from IIT Kanpur. He also holds a Master's degree in International Development Policy from Duke University and a Ph.D. in Economics.
Mr. Kumar has held several key positions in the Government of Bihar, including District Magistrate of Kaimur, Bokaro, East Champaran, and Nalanda. He has served as Secretary of the Art, Culture and Youth Department; Principal Secretary of the Building Construction Department; Principal Secretary of the General Administration Department; and Principal Secretary in the Chief Minister's Office, Bihar.
At the national level, he has previously served in the Ministry of Railways and the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India. Prior to his current role, he was the Managing Director of the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd., New Delhi.
Mr. Nadir B. Godrej is the Chairperson of Godrej MIndustries Group; Chairperson and Managing Director of Godrej Industries Limited and Chairman of Godrej Agrovet Ltd. He is also the Co-Chair of Godrej Good & Green Governing Council. He has been a Director of several Godrej companies since 1977 and has developed the animal feed, agricultural inputs and chemicals businesses of Godrej Industries and other associate companies and has been very active in research.
Mr. Godrej is deeply committed to the GOOD and GREEN strategies and achievement of set targets for the Godrej Industries Group. He encourages and supports a shared vision value for all programs of Good and Green.
Mr. Godrej is a recipient of many prestigious awards in the country and overseas including the Hurun award for most respected Indian Industrialist of the Year.
Recently, he was honored with a DSc. (Honoris Causa) by Institute of Chemical Technology and has also received a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Management from XIM University, Bhubaneswar in recognition of his contribution to Industry and Society. In the past, he has been felicitated with 'Green Business Titan' Award for his commitment towards driving sustainability at the Godrej Group, by the JSW The Times of India Earth Care Awards.
His interests are in science, linguistics, swimming and poetry. He is author of "Life and Other Poems" & “Nadir Godrej The Poet” (a collection of English and French poems).

Mr. George is committed to environmental sustainability and has positioned Bisleri as a socially responsible industry leader. Under his stewardship, Bisleri became one of the first companies in India to achieve plastic-neutral and water-positive status recycling more plastic than it puts into the market and replenishing more water than it extracts. Beyond his corporate role, He contributes actively to the broader business and academic ecosystem. He serves as an Independent Director and is an executive member of CII and ICC committees on Water, as well as the CII National Committee on Food Processing Industries. He is also an Honorary Professor at leading management schools, mentoring future business leaders, and serves on the Advisory Boards of Management Institutes and Universities.

H.E. Abdullah Ahmed Al Saleh has held the position of Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economy since September 2020. He has 29 years of experience in the federal government, where he worked as a diplomat with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for 13 years. He worked at the UAE Embassy in Washington DC (1993-1998), and the UAE Embassy in Paris (2000-2003) and in other departments at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was assigned to work in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister for the period between 1998-2000. He is a board member of the UAE Gender Balance Council, board member of the Emirates Council for Artificial Intelligence and Block- chain, board member of Emirates International Accreditation Centre, and a member of advisory boards for some colleges and universities in the country. He holds a BA in political science from the UAE University (1990), and a master's degree in international politics from the American University in Washington, DC (1997).

He is a prominent and well respected figure in the UAE, renowned for his exceptional leadership and unwavering dedication to public service. With a distinguished career spanning decades, he has played a pivotal role in shaping the policy landscape of Dubai and the UAE. He began his career in 1980 at the Dubai Police Academy, and swiftly moved up the ranks, showcasing his dedication to public service. In 2008, he was appointed Director of the Citizenship and Residency Department in Dubai, where he oversaw significant reforms and innovations. As Director General of Residency and Foreign Affairs in Dubai, he introduced numerous initiatives to enhance public service delivery and attracted investments to improve the quality of life for citizens. Under his dynamic leadership, Dubai Residency gained wide global recognition, achieving numerous awards. He also led initiatives such as the Dubai Work Package, the Unified Residence Application Package, and the Smart Travel Project, which streamlined residency processes and elevated customer experience. He is recognized internationally as one of the most influential and intelligent Arab leaders. His vision to establish Dubai Residency as a global leader in public services underscores his commitment to excellence, innovation, and a customer-centric approach. Mr. Puneet Chhatwal is the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of The Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) and has over four decades of leadership experience at highly acclaimed hotel groups in Europe and North America. He also serves as the Chairman of the National Committee of Tourism and Hospitality, CII, and Chairman of Federation of Associations in Indian Tourism & Hospitality (FAITH). Prior to this, He was the CEO and Member of the Executive Board of Steigenberger Hotels AG – Deutsche Hospitality. He was also the Chief Development Officer of The Rezidor Hotel Group – Carlson Hotels Worldwide. Throughout his international career, Mr. Chhatwal has received several acclaimed awards and is the First Alumnus included in the ESSEC-IMHI Hall of Honour 2014. He has been honoured with induction into the prestigious Global Travel Hall of Fame by Travel Weekly UK, Hall of Fame Award at the 39th IATO Annual Convention and Rotary Club of Bombay’s Ramkrishna Bajaj Award for good governance. Mr. Mohit Burman is the Chairman of Dabur India, the world’s largest Ayurvedic and Natural healthcare Company. A 140-year-old Indian consumer goods major, Dabur operates in over 120 countries, providing employment to more than 7,000 people and generating revenues in excess of Rs.12,400 Crore per annum. A fifth-generation member of the distinguished Burman family, promoters of Dabur, he is the driving force behind the family's foray into several sunrise sectors. He led the family's acquisition of battery maker Eveready Industries, and Punjab Tractors. He was instrumental in the Burman family's entry into the Life Insurance sector. A great sports lover, he is also a promoter and co-owner of the Indian Premier League cricket team Punjab Kings. Mr. Burman is a firm believer of conducting business with highest Corporate Governance standards. He has been helping to evolve the strategic direction for the various business ventures floated by him and his family, while nurturing the strong professionalleadership teams across businesses. He sits on the Boards of several well-managed companies, including Aviva India, Punjab Kings, Eveready Industries, Universal Sompo, Dabur India Limited and Burman Hospitality. He is equally active on the social front and is involved in several welfare activities to improve the quality of life of weaker sections of the society.
Ms. Alka Upadhyaya, an Indian Administrative Service Officer (IAS) (Madhya Pradesh: cadre) was appointed as Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying in April, 2023.
Ms. Upadhyaya has done M.Sc. (Organic Chemistry), MA (Economics) & Masters in Public Administration from Maxwell School of Public Policy, Syracuse University, USA. She has a long distinguished administrative experience of 33 years in the IAS. Ms. Upadhyaya has served in various positions in Madhya Pradesh & Government of India. She has been involved in policy making and project execution in various sectors like Road Infrastructure, Finance, Health and Personnel.
She has specialized in Roads and Infrastructure, having spent more than a decade in the sector. She has held key positions as Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, India, Chairperson National Highways Authority of India, leading one of the largest Highway development programme in the world. She was also Director General, National Rural Infrastructure Development Authority and Additional Secretary Ministry of Rural Development, looking after PMGSY and other Rural Infrastructure programmes.
Mr. Dilip Shanghvi is the Chairman and Managing Director of Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Limited (Sun Pharma), world's 4th largest and India's No. 1 specialty generic pharmaceutical company. He is also the Chairman of Sun Pharma Advanced Research Company, which is engaged in R&D of new innovative drugs and delivery technologies.
He was honoured with India's fourth highest Civilian Award, the Padma Shri, in recognition of his distinguished contribution to the Indian Trade & Industry, in 2016. In 2018, the Indian Government appointed Mr. Shanghvi to India's central bank, Reserve Bank of India’s 21-member Central Board Committee. He is part of the Economic Advisory Council formed by the Government of Maharashtra, India to achieve rapid and comprehensive development in the state. The Government of Gujarat appointed him as the Chairman of Gujarat Biotechnology University in 2022.
Mr. Shanghvi has been conferred with many awards and recognitions. In 2023, 2021 & 2020, India’s leading magazine, India Today has included him in its Annual Power List of 50 influential personalities in India. Some of the other awards and recognitions bestowed on him include: Moneycontrol Lifetime Achievement Award (2023), NDTV Business Leader of the Year (2015), Forbes Entrepreneur for the year (2014), Economic Times’ Business Leader of the Year (2014) and Ernst and Young’s World Entrepreneur of the Year (2011). He has also been awarded the Economic Times’ Entrepreneur of the Year (2008), Business Standard’s CEO of the Year (2008) and CNBC TV 18’s First Generation Entrepreneur of the Year (2007)
He is a former President of the Indian Pharmaceutical Alliance (IPA) and has also served as the Chairman of the Board of Governors of the Indian Institute of Technology (Bombay). He is a former Trustee of the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship Programme at Oxford University. In 2019, he was conferred with an honorary doctorate by the Tel Aviv University, Israel’s largest and most comprehensive institution of higher learning.

Mr. Vivek Kumar Dewangan is the Chairman & MD of REC Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise under the Ministry of Power, Government of India. He is an Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer and holds a Bachelors of Engineering in Electronics from NIT, Bhopal and a Post-Graduation degree from IIT, Delhi. Prior to joining REC, he was Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Power, Government of India.
During his illustrious IAS career, he has held various administrative positions in the areas of Finance, Power & Energy, Petroleum & Natural Gas, Elections, Law & Justice, Commerce & Industries, Minister’s Offices (Corporate Affairs, Agriculture & Food Processing Industries), Education, Human Resource Development, Sericulture, Agriculture & Cooperation, Economic affairs, Economics & Statistics, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, District Administration (Surguja & Raipur district in Chhattisgarh and Senapati district in Manipur) and revenue administration.
In his current role as CMD - REC, he provides strategic vision and overall direction to REC for achieving its corporate objectives. REC has achieved greater heights under his leadership and is looking to diversify into energy transition and infrastructure funding businesses along with its strong footprints across the energy sector. Under his leadership, REC has been conferred the Maharatna status – the highest recognition for a Central Government organization and became the latest entrant to this coveted club. He is also the ex-officio Chairman of REC’s wholly-owned subsidiary viz. REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL).
Mr. G. Kamala Vardhana Rao is a distinguished Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the Kerala Cadre, renowned for his exemplary leadership and extensive contributions across a wide range of public service domains.
In his current regulatory role as the Chief Executive Officer of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), he has taken several groundbreaking initiatives in the field of Food Safety. He has been instrumental in setting new standards for 14 types of millets, which was highlighted by the launch of “Shree Anna - A Holistic Overview” by the Prime Minister. He also organized the International Millets Conference and the Global Food Regulatory Summit, elevating India's role in the global food safety landscape.
His tenure at FSSAI has seen the initiation of modernizing Street Food through the “PRASADAM” project, which emphasizes hygienic protocols and food safety. Additionally, he has introduced innovative IT portals such as Food-'O'-Copoeia, SaNGRAHA, and a Common Digital Dashboard, aiming to enhance regulatory transparency and support the food industry.
Mr. Sandeep Kumar Gupta is CMD of GAIL (India) Limited, India's leading natural gas company with diversified interests across the natural gas value chain of trading, transmission, LPG production & transmission, LNG regasification, petrochemicals, city gas, E&P, etc. He has wide experience of over 35 years in the Oil & Gas Industry. Before joining GAIL in October 2022, he held the position of Director (Finance) since August 2019 on the Board of Indian Oil Corporation Limited. As Director (Finance), he was in charge of F&A, Treasury, Pricing, International Trade, Optimization, Information Systems, Corporate Affairs, Legal, Risk Management, etc. Mr. Gupta is also the Chairman of Mahanagar Gas Limited, Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL), GAIL Gas Limited and also on the Board of Petronet LNG Limited. He is also Chairman of Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE), an apex professional organization representing the Central Government Public Enterprises. Mr. Gupta is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India and has received prestigious individual recognition such as “CA CFO – Large Corporate – Manufacturing and Infrastructure Category” in January 2021 by ICAI, adjudged among Top 30 CFOs in India by StartupLanes.com in May 2022, Best CEO – Oil & Gas Sector 2022-23 by India Today in April 2023 and “CEO with HR Orientation” Award by World HRD Congress in February 2024.
Abdullah Mohammed Al Mazrui is an Emirati businessman and entrepreneur from Abu Dhabi. He founded his family business in 1972. The Group’s companies are now market leaders in various sectors including oil & gas, retail, trading, construction & logistics, education, real estate and financial investments. Mr. Mazrui has cemented his reputation as a leader of the Arab oil & gas industry through long standing strategic partnerships with Baker Hughes, Schlumberger and Cameron International. Recent Joint Ventures with ENI Versalis, Woodserv, and Ramco reflect his continued influence in the oil & gas sector. Mr. Mazrui is the Chairman of several companies and institutions, including Emirates Insurance Company, International School of Choueifat, Aramex, Jashanmal National Company, National Catering Co. He also sits on the Board of Directors for the following organizations and institutions: Depa, Investcorp, Dun & Bradstreet and Emirates Specialties Company. Mr. Mazrui holds a Bachelor of Arts with Honors from the Chapman University of California, USA. He has been listed as one of the world’s most influential and respected Arab businessmen.
Dr. Surender Singh Kandhari was born in 1948 in India. He graduated with Honours from Loyola College Madras, where he was the Student Union President. In 1976; He came to Dubai and formed the Al Dobowi Group. The group today is the leading management services provider in the UAE and has grown to have over 1500 employees and have a significant presence in Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Ghana, Europe and Canada. He is a vivid golfer and is a founder member of the Emirates Golf Club, where he was until recently the Club Captain. He is also a founding member of the World Trade Centre Club, on the Board of the Governors of the Indian Sports Club and the Vice President of the Auto Parts Merchants Group. He is also the Chairman of the Guru Nanak Darbar, Sikh Temple, Dubai - the First Sikh Gurudwara in the UAE; to name a few of his activities.
Hamad Sayah Al Mazrouei was appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of the ADGM Registration Authority (RA) in January 2023. In this role, he spearheads the innovation and supervision of registration procedures for both financial and non-financial service entities and real estate assets under ADGM's purview, as well as ensuring that ADGM-registered legal entities adhere to the institution’s commercial rules and regulations.
With a history of instrumental leadership roles at ADGM, including his prior position as Chief Operating Officer, Hamad has played a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s strategic direction. He was the driving force behind the ambitious "OneADGM Project," which aimed to achieve enhanced customer journey and support the growth of the international financial centre in Abu Dhabi.
Shriti Vadera is Chair of Prudential plc and The Royal Shakespeare Company. She was formerly Chair of Santander UK, Senior Independent Director of BHP and Non-Executive Director at Astra Zeneca.
She was recently appointed Co-Chair of the World Bank Private Sector Investment Lab. During her 40 year career spanning the public and private sectors, Shriti has undertaken a wide range of assignments in the UK and internationally. She was a UK Government Minister from 2007 to 2009 in the Cabinet Office, Business Department and International Development Department and led the UK Government’s response to the financial crisis and was a key architect of its pioneering bank recapitalisation and funding plan and helped design and negotiate the outcomes of the 2009 G20 London Summit. She was a member of the Council of Economic Advisers at the UK Treasury from 1999 - 2007 where she led on policy for business, international finance and development issues and the management of the Government’s shareholdings and public private partnerships. She has undertaken a wide range of assignments including advising the South Korean Chair of the G20 in 2010; two European countries on the Eurozone and banking crisis; the African Development Bank on infrastructure financing; and a number of sovereign wealth funds and global investors on strategy. She started her career as an investment banker for 15 years with SG Warburg / UBS, with a particular focus on emerging markets.

Prior to TIW, he was an investment & Operating professional at Baring Private Equity Partners India Fund II and Fund III. He has served on advisory board of companies in the interest- rate sensitive sectors, Technology, Education, Consumption, Media, Digital Businesses & Manufacturing Consumption. He has been awarded with Economic Times Most Promising Business Leaders of Asia in 2019.
Dr. Ronald Colaco, the Founder of Clarks Exotica, is widely recognized for his visionary leadership and commitment to philanthropy. His unwavering commitment to innovation has ensured that the resort remains at the forefront of the hospitality industry. He also held top positions in a consortium of three multinational-companies engaged in turnkey projects of world-class Petro Refineries, Gas Processing/Re-injection plants, Townships and Airports across Eight Gulf and European countries. Dr. Colaco is also known for his philanthropic work. He is a strong advocate for education and his charitable initiatives have helped to provide educational opportunities to underprivileged children. He has made significant contributions to healthcare development, housing for the underprivileged, the field of art and culture, religious initiatives, and public infrastructure. In recognition of his outstanding social and charitable efforts, he was honored with the Certificate of Excellence by the World Books of Records, England. Additionally, he holds a professional doctorate in global leadership and management from the 55th ranked European International University of Paris, France, awarded in 2020, among other accolades.
Hon'ble Justice Ritu Raj Awasthi is the Chairman of the Law Commission of India. He was the former Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court. A leading legal luminary who has had an illustrious journey in the field of law, Justice Awasthi graduated in law from Lucknow University in the year 1986. Following which, he started his legal practice in the year 1987, post his enrolment as Advocate in 1987. Since beginning, his expertise included civil, service and education matters at the Lucknow Bench of Allahabad High Court. In 2007, he was appointed the Assistant Solicitor of India for Allahabad High Court. After practising for more than 20 years, he was elevated to Additional Judge on 13th April 2009 and became a permanent Judge on 24th December, 2010. Hon'ble Justice Awasthi was also nominated as the Senior Judge at High Court in Lucknow in 2021 and thereafter was elevated as Chief Justice of Karnataka High Court in 2021.
Mr. Pradeep K. Kheruka, Executive Chairman of Borosil Renewables Limited, and Borosil Ltd., is a leading industrialist of India actively associated with the glass industry for over 50 years. His entrepreneurial journey, which began at the age of 17, is a story of innovation and modernization. By the time he turned 25, he decided to focus on the export market and soon became the largest Indian glass exporter in the country and garnered several awards, including the National Award from the President of India. He is credited with many 'firsts' and ground-breaking products in the modern glass industry.
Mr. C. K. Mishra has been a career civil servant belonging to the Indian Administrative Service. He joined the Service (IAS) in 1983 and superannuated as Secretary in the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India. He has been spearheading the Indian efforts at addressing Climate Change issues and at policy interventions in matters relating to pollution and air quality. He led India's negotiations at important forums such as United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (Conference of the Parties (COP)) to aid progress in dealing with climate change; Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer and various other multilateral events. He was also the administrative head of Forest & Wildlife conservation efforts in India where India saw continuous increase in forest cover. Dr. Anup Wadhawan, IAS (Retd.) is an economic and public policy professional with 40 years work experience in various sectors, including the civil service, regulation, academics, private sector, and international development. He spent 36 years in the Indian Administrative Service and served as India's Commerce Secretary for 3 years. During this tenure, he managed India's Foreign Trade Policy, negotiated bilateral, regional and multilateral trade deals, and implemented measures to promote exports and create an investor-friendly environment. He was also responsible for policymaking and oversight in banking, insurance, the national pension system, and capital markets. He played a significant role in framing of the Insurance Laws Amendment Act 2015, which reformed the Indian insurance sector, raised the foreign investment cap, and allowed foreign reinsurers and Lloyds to operate in India. He also oversaw the management of the National Pension System corpus as PFRDA chair, coordinated capital markets policy and regulation with the Securities and Exchange Board and the Reserve Bank of India, promoted foreign portfolio and direct investment flows, and coordinated matters related to the Financial Stability Board, Financial Stability and Development Council, and Financial Action Task Force. During his tenure at the Prime Minister's office, he provided inputs on macroeconomic and sectoral policy reforms in areas like regulation, PPPs, fiscal management, and the power sector.
During his long and distinguished career, Mr. Munjee has been at the helm of creating and building of some of India's foremost financial institutions which stems from his abiding interest in the problems of development in an emerging economy. After being educated in the UK and the US, he began his career with the creation of the first mortgage company in India - the Housing Development Finance Corporation (HDFC) - with which he was associated for twenty years, rising to be its Director. Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta is an AGMUT (erstwhile J&K) cadre officer of the Indian Administrative Services. He has vast administrative experience in both, Jammu and Kashmir, and the Government of India, where he has displayed an extraordinary acumen as a leader.

Mr. Prabh Das has been single-handedly instrumental in establishing HMEL since its inception, including the formation of the pioneering public-private joint venture. He formally joined HMEL in 2008, and has been instrumental in setting up of the Guru Gobind Singh Refinery project, and its successful operations thereafter. He possesses vast and wide-ranging experience in administration and modern management, having served in the Indian Administrative Services for over 25 years. He is responsible for leading and managing HMEL and its subsidiaries as Managing Director and CEO.
Prior to joining HMEL, Mr. Das served as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas from 2003 to 2008, where he was in-charge of the Refineries Division, and was instrumental in implementing the ‘Auto Fuel’ policy, strategic storage and new initiatives in Oil Diplomacy. He led the transformation of the domestic refining sector which included strengthening refining capacities, improving refining operations, safety aspects and introduction of new technologies.
Vice Admiral Narayan Prasad, AVSM, NM IN (Retd.) is the CMD of Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd., aptly called “Ship Builder to the Nation”, since 2019. His stints as Collector in districts of Dangs, Vadodara, Panchmahals, Banaskantha and Junagadh are notable for his achievements. As Guardian Secretary of Dangs district, a remote and backward tribal area, he transformed it to become the horticulture and vegetable belt for the urban markets of Gujarat. In the aftermath of the calamitous earthquake in the state in 2001, the World Health Organization (WHO) especially requisitioned his services as a Consultant who successfully monitored the entire work of relief, rehabilitation and restoration of the health infrastructures.
As the state Forest and Environment Department Principal Secretary, he actively propagated afforestation activities, pollution control, environment and coastal zone regulations, green buildings, eco-industrial parks and evolved a policy for investment in environmental infrastructure and also working towards bio-fuel policy and alternate energy options.

Jawhar Sircar (born 22 March 1952) is a retired Indian Administrative Services officer, who is prominent as a public intellectual, speaker and writer. He has been elected as a Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Parliament on 2 August 2021 on an AITC ticket to represent State of West Bengal. He served as chief executive officer in Prasar Bharati from 2012 to 2016 and has been a prominent officer of the Indian Administrative Service officer from 1975. He was Secretary to Government of India (2008–12) and has also held important portfolios in the Central and State governments.

In appreciation of the leading role he played in preserving the Arab and Islamic heritage, Mr. Juma Al Majed was honored and received the International Personality Award for serving Culture and Heritage from Egypt, and the Arab Cultural Foundation in Beirut. Recently, he was honored by the League of Arab States in cooperation with the Arab Center for Culture and Information for the Excellence Award for Supporting Arab Heritage.

Pradeep Kumar Sinha (born 18 July 1955; IAS is a 1977 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, who was the 31st Cabinet Secretary of India.[2] Prior to this appointment he served as the Power Secretary of India, and was the Shipping Secretary of India before that.
On August 30, 2019 Sinha was appointed as Officer on Special Duty in the Prime Minister's Office. And on 11 September 2019, he was appointed as Principal Advisor to Prime Minister of India, Narendra Damodardas Modi. He resigned from the aforementioned post on 16 March 2021 citing personal reasons.

Prof. (Dr.) Arup Roy Choudhury (born 29 December 1956) is a business executive and professor. He worked as the Chairman & MD of NBCC (National Building Construction Corporation), a Navaratna Central Public Sector Company from 3 April 2001 to 31 August 2010, and as Chairman and MD of NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation), a Maharatna Central Public Sector Company from 1 September 2010 to 31 August 2015. He also held an additional charge of Chairman of DVC (Damodar Valley Corporation), a Company owned by Govt. of India, Govt. of West Bengal, and Govt. of Jharkhand. From 6 October 2015 till 15 Dec 2020 he worked with the Govt. of West Bengal, initially as the Chief Commissioner of West Bengal Right to Public Service Commission, and thereafter as the Principal Advisor Infrastructure to the West Bengal Cabinet. Since 28 Jan 2021, he has joined as Professor of Practice with the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi. Yash Raj Chopra (27 September 1932 – 21 October 2012) was an Indian film director and film producer who worked in Hindi cinema. The founding chairman of the film production and distribution company Yash Raj Films, Chopra was the recipient of several awards, including 6 National Film Awards and 8 Filmfare Awards. He is considered among the best Indian filmmakers. For his contributions to film, the Government of India honoured him with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 2001, and the Padma Bhushan in 2005. In 2006 British Academy of Film and Television Arts presented him with a lifetime membership, making him the first Indian to receive the honour.
Mr. Anurag Goel is a career civil servant, who joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1972. He has served in Government of India in 6 Ministries viz. Mr. Dharam Vir joined IAS in 1973, after B.Sc. (Hons) Physics in 1969 from IIT Kharagpur, M.Sc. Physics in 1971 from IIT Kanpur & doing research in Physics for 2 years at the same institute. During service, he did MBA from University of Leeds in 1988 under the British Colombo Plan.
He retired as Chief Secretary in State Government of Haryana, India, after working for 36+ years at several positions (Secretary, Director, MD etc.) in government, public sector undertakings, VC of 2 universities & Director of Board of Governors of several educational institutions. Mr. Dharam Vir also attended several in-service training programs in India & abroad, participated in national/international conferences.
Written & published articles on governance, education and science & technology in leading news papers. In 2011, he coauthored a book on IIT Kharagpur, which was released in 2011 by India’s Prime Minister at IITKgp’s Golden Jubilee Celebrations After retirement on Oct 31, 2009, he was appointed State Election Commissioner (Nov. 9, 2009) for a period of five years to supervise and conduct elections to panchayati raj institutions (rural bodies) & municipal bodies. He finally retired in April, 2015.

He is a fellow member of the Institute of Cost Accountant of India and an associate member of the Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB). He also attended various management programs in India and overseas more specific to Oil and Gas Industry & Management Strategies. Mr. Sharma has over four decades of rich experience in Banking, Finance & Treasury in India and abroad. He had joined Union Bank of India in 1972 with experience in branch banking and specialization in Credit Appraisal. Further, he was the member of middle level finance team of another PSU engaged in construction in roads and bridges in foreign countries, including functioning as Regional Head of Finance for Iraq region from October 1982 to July 1986. He had joined Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) in 1988 and handled various key areas of his expertise like Financial Management, Financial Appraisal, Project Appraisals, Treasury Management at middle and senior level in various Projects as well as the Corporate Office. Further, he had been appointed as Director - Finance of ONGC in 2002 and also headed the additional position of Director - Finance of ONGC Videsh Limited and rose to the position of Chairman & Managing Director of ONGC in May, 2006. Jagdish Khattar, a top-rated officer from the Uttar Pradesh cadre of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS). Khattar, who had a BA from Delhi’s St Stephen’s College and a law degree from Delhi University, had started off as a district magistrate in Uttar Pradesh’s Chamoli in 1969. GAIL marketing director UD Choubey has taken over as the chairman and managing director of the gas PSU. He was heading the marketing division of the company since May 2004, was selected from among half a dozen aspirants to head the gas transmission and distribution utility by the Public Enterprise Selection Board (PSEB). The Cabinet Committee of Appointments subsequently ratified the recommendation of the PSEB.
He joined GAIL in 1986 and is a known figure in the natural gas business, is a doctorate in hydrocarbons from the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, a post-graduate in chemistry from Patna University, an MBA from Indian Institute of Business Management, Patna and an LLB from the University of Delhi.
Choubey joined GAIL in its formative period and has been associated with the marketing department since then. He was the first director (marketing) of the PSU and was responsible for marketing GAIL's complete range of products and services in the field of natural gas. He has also authored a book, Text Book on Natural Gas, is widely traveled and has represented the country and presented papers at a number of national and international conferences.

Brij Behari Lal Butail (or BBL Butail) is an Indian Politician from Palampur. He was MLA of Palampur and he was the 12th Speaker of Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly. He retired from politics in 2017 and his son Ashish Butail was elected as MLA of Palampur in January 2018.

Navin B Chawla joined the prestigious Indian Administrative Service in 1969. He enjoyed a distinguished 35-year civil service career. He rose to the rank of Special Secretary in the Ministry of Environment and Forests. He was then appointed Secretary in the Department of Consumer Affairs, before taking on the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting in 2004. In 2005 he was appointed Election Commissioner. In April 2009, he was appointed a India’s 16th Chief Election Commissioner. He was privileged to have a 23-year long association with Mother Teresa. Following a successful inning in marketing, Sanjiv took over as Head of Operations for the Company-Owned Bottling Operations in India. He was elevated as the Deputy President of the India Division in April 2002.
During this period, he brought about significant operational improvements at the marketplace, resulting in the company reaching the break-even profit stage in 2001-2 and the India Division receiving the prestigious Woodruff Cup in 2003. Captain C. P. Krishnan Nair, founder chairman of The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts, has died aged 92.
He passed away peacefully yesterday with his family beside him and the last rites will be performed today, at Pawan Hans crematorium in Juhu, Mumbai.
Nair established The Leela Palaces, Hotels and Resorts in 1987 in Mumbai, aged 65. Previously, while in charge of his father-in-law’s handloom business, which he grew into India’s largest garment exporting house, Nair’s frequent business trips exposed him to the world of luxury hospitality.

Ranjana Kumar (born December 10, 1945) is an Indian banker who served as Vigilance Commissioner in Central Vigilance Commission and Chairperson of National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). She had begun her banking career in 1966 as a probationary officer in Bank of India where she served in various positions. When the Government of India appointed her as the Chairperson and managing Director of the Indian Bank, she became the first woman to become head of a public sector bank in India.

After a brief stint with IISCO at Burnpur, West Bengal in 1963, Mr. Rana joined Indian Railways in 1964 in the cadre of Indian Railway Service of Engineers after securing the top position in the All Indian Engineering Service Examination.
During his long service career of 37 years, Mr. Rana successfully handled a large number of challenging assignments like Construction of Rail Coach Factory at Kapurthala, the largest coach factory of world, in record time of 2 years only, Giddalaur-Nandyal gauge conversion project, Goa gauge conversion project in an extremely tight time schedule and was the Divisional Railway Manager of Danapur Division of Eastern Railway in Bihar for more than 3 years. During his tenure, Danapur Division showed all-round improvement in all spheres. During his tenure as GM, Eastern Railway, the Railway faced the worst ever flood damages. Under his leadership, the officers and staff successfully rescued over 1000 passengers from the marooned Teesta Torsa Express at Swadinpur, which was inundated by flash flood. Rescuing operation was done in almost waist-deep water and flood restoration work was carried out in record time.
Mr. Shahi held the position of Secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Power for nearly five years from April 2002 to January 2007. In this position, he was responsible for policy initiatives and implementation for the entire Power Sector (1,68,000 MW capacity) in India. During his tenure, the Indian Power Sector went through a major restructuring with the institution of the Electricity Act, 2003 and subsequent National Electricity Policy, 2005 and National Tariff Policy, 2006. Other major initiatives launched include the Accelerated Power Development & Reform Programme (2002), Rural Electrification Policy (2005), Ultra Mega Power Policy (2006) and Merchant Power Policy (2006). Mr. Shahi was directly responsible for the long-term planning and operational performance of the Central Public Sector Undertakings viz. National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC), Power Grid Corporation of India Ltd, National Hydroelectric Power Corporation, Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd, Tehri Hydro Development Corporation, Power Finance Corporation, Rural Electrification Corporation, Bhakra Beas Management Board and Damodar Valley Corporation. He was also President of the Governing Council of Central Power Research Institute, Chairman of the Executive Committee of Bureau of Energy Efficiency and Chairman of the Governing Council of National Power Training Institute having 5 large Training Institutes in various parts of the country.
Kapil Sibal (born 8 August 1948) is an Indian lawyer and politician. Sibal has represented several high-profile cases in the Supreme Court of India and is widely regarded as one of the famous lawyers of India. He is a Member of Parliament, in Rajya Sabha.
A University of Delhi and Harvard University graduate, Sibal has practiced law in Wall Street and held several important posts relating to law and administration including Additional Solicitor General, and President of Supreme Court Bar Association. Sibal first entered Rajya Sabha in 1998 to represent Bihar. Before that, he had unsuccessfully contested for the Lok Sabha against Sushma Swaraj. He later contested from Chandni Chowk and won in 2004 and 2009.
As a senior Indian National Congress member then, Sibal served under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as a minister holding various portfolios over the years. As minister, he headed delegations of India in high-profile international forums. His actions in official capacity were controversial multiple times including when he undertook to regulate internet content. Sibal often was portrayed as an intellectual face of the Congress who batted for the party on television and in regular columns.

Vijay Kumar Chaturvedi is an Indian mechanical engineer and a nuclear power expert. He is a former Chairman and Managing Director of the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL). He did his graduate studies in mechanical engineering at Vikram University- Samrat Ashok Technological Institute in 1965 and secured a master's degree in nuclear engineering from Bhabha Atomic Research Centre Training School, Trombay.
After superannuating from NPCIL, Chaturvedi joined the Reliance Industries, served in such various capacities as that of a Director of New Power of Reliance Energy Limited, a Non-Executive of Reliance Power Limited, Director of the New Power at Reliance Infrastructure Limited and as a Non-Executive Director of Reliance Infrastructure Limited and serves the company as a member of its various committees.
Chaturvedi is a former member of the Atomic Energy Commission of India and has chaired the Tokyo Centre of the World Association of Nuclear Operators (WANO). He has also been a member of the Board of Governors of WANO for two years. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri in 2001.
He was the Chairman and MD from May 2001-2006, ONGC's market capitalisation increased more than 10 times to Rs 200,000 crore, and became the leader among all public and private sector companies in India in terms of networth.

Manju Sharma (born 13 December 1940) is an Indian bio-technologist and administrator of several scientific research and policy-making bodies in India. She was most recently the president and executive director at the Indian Institute of Advanced Research in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. She earlier served as the secretary, Department of Biotechnology, in the Indian Ministry of Science and Technology,[1] and was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2007. Some credit Sharma with pioneering biotechnology research in India. She played a significant role in establishing several institutions in the country, including the National Institute of Immunology, the National Institute of Plant Genome Research, the Biomass Research Centres at Lucknow and Madurai, the Plant Molecular Biology Unit in University of Delhi and the Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics.
Dr. S. Narayan, IAS (Retd.) has to his credit nearly four decades (1965 to 2004) of public service in the State and Central Governments, in Development Administration. Lastly (2003-04), he was Economic Adviser to the Prime Minister and was responsible for implementation of economic policies of several Ministries. Prior to this assignment, he was in Government of India as Finance and Economic Affairs Secretary, Secretary in the Departments of Revenue, Petroleum, Industrial Development and Coal, since 1997.
Between 2000 and 2003, he was in the Ministry of Finance with responsibilities for formulation of macro-economic policy for the Government, tariff and taxation policies, as well as initiatives for modernising the capital markets. He was one of the key players in formulating the National Budget between 2000 and 2004.

Lt. Gen. Surinder Nath, PVSM, AVSM (Retd.), is the Vice Chairman, Institute of Directors, India. He is also the former Chairman, Union Public Service Commission, former Vice Chief of Army Staff and has also served on the Board of Larsen and Toubro Ltd. as an Independent Director. In December 2002, he was selected as Chairman of a Study Group constituted by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India to review the system of performance appraisal, promotion, empanelment and placement procedures for All India Services i.e. IAS, IPS and IFOS and Group’ A’ services of the Government of India. The recommendations of the Study Group were submitted to the Hon’ble Prime Minister in July 2003 and have been frequently highlighted in the Media as “Surinder Nath Committee Report”. Most of these recommendations have been accepted by the Government of India and are now under implementation. He was also a member of another Study Group constituted by the PMO in 2006 for designing and planning in-service training for IAS officers at junior, middle and senior level. The recommendations of the Study Group have been accepted and already implemented. Lt. Gen. Surinder Nath is also member of the Advisory Council, VGSOM, IIT, Kharagpur. He completed his M.Sc. in Defence Studies from Madras University and M.A.in International Relations from Allahabad University.

He started operating Jet Airways in 1993 with initial seed money from Tail Winds incorporated, Isle of Man. Following the 2005 IPO of Jet Airways, Forbes magazine declared him the 16th richest person in India, with a net worth of US$1.9 billion. He currently does not feature on the Forbes list.

He commanded Infantry Brigade in Jammu & Kashmir where he was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal (AVSM).
In Dec 1989, he was appointed General Officer Commanding, Mountain Division and in Aug 1992, he assumed command of Corps in Punjab, where he oversaw anti-militancy operations in the state.
V K Mittal has been appointed as joint managing director of Ispat Industries Ltd. The appointment was approved by shareholders yesterday at the annual general meeting after being put to vote as an ordinary resolution.
Speaking to Business Standard, P K Mittal, vice chairman and managing director of Ispat Industries said that V K Mittal would oversee the company's Mumbai operations and monitor the implementation of its ongoing hot rolled coil project at Dolvi. P K Mittal, himself, will continue to be in charge of supervising the company's overall activities. and expansion in other identified business areas.
Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) member (personnel and vigilance) Ravi Kant took over as acting chairman of the board recently in a top level reshuffle.
Ravi Kant was the natural choice for the position as he was the senior-most official in the board, second only to outgoing chairman S N Shende who relinquished the post as he went on a deputation to the United Nations. Shende had taken over from Govind K Misra who was posted as advisor, Planning Commission. Shende held the chairmans post for about a month.

Bharat Ratna Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam was an Indian aerospace scientist and statesman who served as the 11th president of India from 2002 to 2007. He was born and raised in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu and studied physics and aerospace engineering. He spent the next four decades as a scientist and science administrator, mainly at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and was intimately involved in India's civilian space programme and military missile development efforts. He thus came to be known as the Missile Man of India for his work on the development of ballistic missile and launch vehicle technology. He also played a pivotal organisational, technical, and political role in India's Pokhran-II nuclear tests in 1998, the first since the original nuclear test by India in 1974.
