The Institute of Directors (IOD), Hyderabad Region, organised the Regional Members' Meet on April 19, 2024, held at Engineering Staff College of India, Gachibowli, Hyderabad. The theme of the event was 'Insights on Corporate Governance, Cyber Security Risk, and Financial Management'. The event highlighted recent updates on corporate governance and the importance of securely handling data in the day-to-day business world.
The 'Welcome Address' was delivered by Mr. Sandeep Chatterjee, Sustainability Leader, IBM Consulting, and Member of the IOD Hyderabad Region.
The 'Special Address' at the first session was delivered by:
Mr. Ajit Rangnekar
Director General - Research and Innovation Circle of Hyderabad
Mr. Rangnekar spoke on the theme, 'Board Governance: A Guide to Directors'. He briefed the audience on the current scenario of corporate governance, covering aspects such as board and stakeholder management, globalization, risk management, and handling financial crises. He discussed various associated factors like social, environmental, and climate resilience, their implications on governance, as well as strategies for management. Additionally, he outlined board meeting priorities and discussed several related scenarios and how they could be handled by the board. His interactive session sparked insightful discussions, addressing real-world governance challenges faced by the audience.
This 'Special Address' at the second session was delivered by:
Mr. Mani Padmanabhan
Partner - CFO Bridge, Hyderabad
Mr. Padmanabhan spoke on the theme, 'Enhancing Business Performance through Financial Management'. He emphasized financial planning and analysis, focusing on managing financial outcomes. He shared insights on sustainable financial growth and its potential to enhance governance. Drawing from his experience as a financial advisor, he discussed two case studies involving startups and corporations, particularly highlighting strategies for handling financial crises. Additionally, he touched upon the concept of 'performance governance', which has garnered attention in recent discussions.
The 'Special Address' at the third session was delivered by:
Dr. Sriram Birudavolu
Chief Executive Officer - Cyber Security Centre of Excellence, Data Security Council of India (A NASSCOM Initiative), Hyderabad
Dr. Birudavolu spoke on the theme, 'Cyber Security and Data Privacy Issues of the Board'. He explained the importance of digitalization in the current era and provided insights into the cyber-world. He sensitized the audience with the attack patterns in the cyber-world and the importance of knowing the possibility of such attacks as directors of companies. He also gave statistics about how frequent the attacks are in India and how they affect business. A case study was also discussed on a cybercrime attack faced by a company working with field force automation. Data compliance issues and privacy attacks were also discussed in the session. Implementation of privacy measures on the board, multifactor authentication, and data storage are also keys to safeguarding against cyber-attacks.
Each Address was followed by Q&A session with the audience.
The 'Closing Remarks & Vote of Thanks' was delivered by Dr. Sameer Sharma (PhD, D. Litt), IAS (Retd.) , Honorary Chairman - Hyderabad Region, Institute of Directors. Dr. Sharma expressed gratitude to the distinguished speakers, the supporting partner, CFO Bridge, IOD Members, and the esteemed guests for their invaluable contributions to the success of the event.
This event marked Dr. Sharma's debut as a host in Hyderabad, adding a special significance to the occasion.
