IOD Announcement: A Moment of Pride for the President of the Institute of Directors (IOD) at the UPSC Centenary Celebration
The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) marked the culmination of its Centenary Celebrations on 1 October 2026 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, commemorating a hundred years of its contribution to merit-based public service and nation-building.
Among the distinguished guests at the landmark occasion was Lt. Gen. Surinder Nath, PVSM, AVSM (Retd.), President, Institute of Directors (IOD), who served as Chairman of the UPSC from December 1998 to June 2002.
Addressing the gathering, Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke of the UPSC's enduring role in upholding merit, transparency and the values of public service. In a particularly warm acknowledgement, he referred to a photograph from the Commission's 75th anniversary celebrations, displayed at the venue, in which Lt. Gen. Surinder Nath was featured.
The Prime Minister remarked: “I noticed a photograph from the 75th anniversary celebrations in which Lt. General Surendra Nath can be seen. Today, at the age of 90, he is present among us.”
The moment offered a poignant reminder that institutions endure, but it is the people who give their legacy meaning.
