Dr. Surendra Singh Kandhari was born in 1948 in India. He was educated in India and graduated with Honours from Loyola College Madras. In 1976, Dr. Kandhari came to Dubai to start the family business and formed the Al Dobowi Group. The group today is the leading management services provider in the UAE, and has grown to have over 2000 employees and now has a significant presence in Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Ghana, Europe, Canada and USA.
He has received numerous Awards and Accolades for his contribution to business and society's welfare.In 2016, Dr. Kandhari was felicitated with the Business Excellence Award during the Indian Business Professional Council Business Summit by the then Minister of Culture of the UAE. In 2019, the then President of India presented him with the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards, honouring his exceptional and generous contribution to his field.
Dr. Kandhari's tireless efforts and hard work have also left an impact on the society. His dedication to serve the society through SEWA and charity is reflected in the recognitions and appreciations that he has received over the years. The World Book of Records, London, recognizing his zeal for social work and public service has conferred on him with the prestigious Certificate of Commitments. He is the only Indian to attend the Ministerial to Advance Religious Freedom Conference in Washington in 2018 as a delegate from the UAE Government representing the Sikh Community.
In 2018, H. H. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan released Dr. Surender Kandhari's autobiography “Temple of My Dreams”. The book talks about the creation and development of his industrial empire, gives one an inside look into the tyre and battery industry on a global scale.
The book “Lighthouse of Tolerance” - self-published by Dr. Kandhari, offers a general understanding of issues pertaining to tolerance (or lack thereof), appreciation for multiculturalism and diversity. “ONE - The Spiritual Search” by Dr. Kandhari is the third part of a the Trilogy, launched in Conference Centre, India Pavilion Expo2020 by H.E. Mr. Sunjay Sudhir, Ambassador of India to UAE & H.E. Maqsoud Kruse Chairperson of the National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) UAE both in Arabic and English versions.
