IOD News November 2025 - IOD, India Joins Panel at the Caribbean Corporate Governance Institute’s Sixth Global Conference on Geopolitics

By- Institute of Directors

The Caribbean Corporate Governance Institute (CCGI) marked a significant milestone with the successful hosting of its Sixth Global Conference, convened under the theme “Geopolitics: AI, ESG, and Sustainability.” The Institute of Directors (IOD), India, was honoured to participate in this distinguished gathering, represented by its Vice President, Mr. Pradeep Chaturvedi, who spoke in Panel 1. Addressing the topic “Geopolitical Shocks and Boardroom Readiness,” he joined an esteemed panel comprising Mr. Bob Garratt, CCGI's Global Ambassador (UK), Ms. Kantha Naicker, Founder of GovernEx (South Africa), and Session Moderator Dr. Nigel Romano, Chairman of CCGI (Trinidad & Tobago).

The panel highlighted the growing need for robust horizon scanning to help boards anticipate geopolitical shifts and shape corporate strategy. Speakers stressed that learning and shared intelligence must extend across the organisation, as navigating volatility requires coordinated and collective preparedness. The distinction between “teams together” and “teams apart” underscored the complementary roles of boards and operational teams in assessing risks and opportunities.

From an Indian standpoint, Mr. Chaturvedi noted that while government support is useful, industries must ultimately take informed, independent decisions amid global uncertainty. He pointed to inter-governmental linkages, sanctions, and conflicts like the Russia–Ukraine war as major factors influencing resilience. Key concerns for boards included supply chain disruptions, currency fluctuations, regulatory complexities, and sanctions compliance. Overall, the session reinforced that geopolitical awareness and strategic agility are now essential to effective board governance.

The Conference reaffirmed that the boardrooms of today must evolve into alert, informed and adaptable strategic centres. As geopolitical uncertainty continues to redefine global business, the onus lies on directors to cultivate resilient organisations capable of responding swiftly to external shocks while upholding principles of sustainability, ethics and long-term value creation. The insights shared at the conference serves as a timely reminder that governance excellence is no longer optional but fundamental to navigating the complexities of the modern world.
