He highlighted that benchmarking CSR performance enables companies to evaluate effectiveness, adopt best practices, identify areas for improvement, and align efforts with national priorities like economic inclusion, climate action, and digital literacy. Stressing that CSR should not be an afterthought or a PR tool, he positioned it as a fundamental pillar of good corporate governance and sustainable business growth.
This was followed by a ‘Brief Talk' delivered by:
Mr. Sailesh Nigam
Chief Operating Officer
American Air Filter (AAF)
Mr. Nigam's address centred on the theme “Combating Air Pollution through CSR for a Healthier Future”, emphasizing the critical issue of air pollution, both outdoor and indoor, highlighting its often overlooked impact on health. He pointed out that while people are conscious about the food and water they consume, they rarely consider the quality of the air they breathe despite inhaling approximately 2,200 gallons daily, equivalent to a swimming pool's volume. He stressed that indoor pollution is particularly concerning, as individuals spend nearly 90% of their lives indoors, making them vulnerable to severe health risks such as lung disease and cancer. Citing alarming statistics, he noted that seven million people globally die each year due to lung-related illnesses, many caused by prolonged exposure to polluted air. He urged individuals to reclaim their right to breathe clean air by ensuring healthy indoor air quality in both workplaces and homes. Concluding his address, Mr. Nigam reinforced the urgent need for greater awareness and proactive measures to combat air pollution for long-term health and well-being.
